It's Pi Day!! and apparently that translates into the temperatures dropping back down into the mid 20's overnight and allowing the trails to be nice and firm this morning. Roughly 40% of the trails are still open and the Ginzu was out last night setting fresh skate and classic everywhere with the best results being in the open spaces not under the trees.
The "snow bridges" are getting narrower at the junction of the BCT and Osprey Lodge Trailhead, by the Tennis Courts, and where the BCT crosses Clear Creek Loop and there are the trail-wide melt outs in the trees before the road crossing and the 2 driveways after the road crossing. Be aware of the thin/icy spots under the trees and there were footprints all over the Clear Creek Loop, so the skate didn't groom out as smoothly as other areas.
Best conditions continue to be in the fields and meadows, especially south of the road crossing including Swamp Creek Loop and once you get past the trees towards Stonewater Loop.
With a little bit of snow in the forecast for this weekend and our plan is to still keep the trails open and to offer discounted $15 day passes online (CLICK HERE to purchase) or in person at Plain Hardware. The goal is still to offer a quality trail experience and not just keep trails open, so minus the couple of spots that are bare and need to be walked, 75% of the skiing is still worth it.
Osprey Lodge Trailhead is our last remaining access point and use caution in the parking lot as it is icy and micro spikes are recommended.
