What a great way to start 2025, a little bit of fresh snow (~1") and temps that are just below freezing. It's getting things ready for the first event of our 5th annual Tour De Plain Series coming this weekend Jan. 3-6! Click the link for more info. Suitable for all abilities and a great way to have some fun.
This morning, the SnoCat was used to set skate and classic on Meadow Loop, Sprint Loop and the BCT up to Mountain Springs Lodge. The classic had mixed results, most of it dug in great, but some spots only gave thin tracks.
Ginzu's were used to make skate passes on the Mill Hill complex (including Mill Hill, Rowdy Coyote, Chainsaw Ridge, Cougar Run and Lumi Lane), with most of it holding up really well. Be aware of some thin and bare spots starting to show on lower Chainsaw Ridge and Cougar Run.
The BCT from Mountain Springs Lodge north up to the Clear Creek Turnaround also got fresh skate with a couple of bare spots starting to show in the hitching post area at Mountain Springs Lodge, but most of the trails are holding up well with full coverage with the exception of under the trees in a few areas that are thin and icy. Stonewater Loop and Swamp Creek also got fresh skate this morning.
All 3 trailheads are open and just a reminder that our northern most trailhead is at Osprey Lodge Trailhead at the 1000 Trails main entrance, which might be the best option if you have a low clearance vehicle. (No longer the Clear Creek Trailhead). As always, use caution in the parking lots as there could be ice (Micro Spikes recommended) and can be quite slushy as temps warm up (4wd recommended).
Disclaimer: Our Nordic Pulse map is a work in progress as we are still coordinating the GPS tracking to align with the actual trails, but all trails are currently open.
